Current Practices and Prospects of Climate-Smart Agriculture in Democratic Republic of Congo: A Review

Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) is one of the innovative approaches for sustainably increasing agricultural productivity, improving livelihoods and incomes farmers, while at same time resilience contributing to climate change mitigation. In spite fact that there neither explicit policy nor practices branded as CSA in Democratic Republic Congo (DRC), farmers are utilizing an array farming whose attributes meet criteria. However, intensity, distribution, efficiency, dynamics use well sources these technologies not sufficiently documented. Therefore, this review paper provides a comprehensive evidence CSA-associated DRC, public private efforts promote practices, associated benefits accruing from deployed by DRC. We find progress among communities can be classified CSA. Communities using building on traditional knowledge systems adaptation introduced suit local conditions. Reported returns promising, pointing their potential continued into future. While progressive investment reported, they relatively lower than those reported other areas sub-Saharan Africa deploying similar approaches. recommend strategic support capacity various levels, including institutions development guidance, extension community level uptake higher education mainstreaming curricula training generation sensitive human resources.
